The brake fluid warning light has come on despite there being adequate fluid levels. Why?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sprite Auto:
1994:
The red brake warning light on the dash console has started coming on. I immediately consulted the manual and discovered that this is an indicator that the brake fluid levels had dropped too low. I purchased some DOT 4 fluid before checking the level, but on inspection it seems that the levels are absolutely fine - way above minimum. As i had just bought the fluid i topped it up to max anyway. The problem is that the light still comes on. It is always on when i get in the car but sometimes goes off once i have been driving for 10 minutes or so.
Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? The car doesn't seem to have a problem with stopping, but if there is a potential problem i like to get on it as quickly as possible.
check the brake filler cap for any defects as these cause issues with the warning light if stuck or the contacts corroded
Remove the cap and clean it with brake fluid. You can see the switch in the lid to inspect, also check contacts.
Also check the wires going into the switch - they are 4 wires going to the switch, two for the bulb in the switch the other two for the 'test'. You may have a loose wire or false ground?
