hi, i just want to double check something, regarding my choke/carb set up. i have found that even with full choke, i only get a rev increase to around 1800-2000rpm, which it used to sit at about 3000rpm. and if put the choke in all the way, even though the engine is warm, it stalls. am i right in thinking that the mixture is a wee bit lean?

thanks

oh ive got a standard 85 mayfare with 998 engine

most probably a bit lean, make the mixture a little bit higher and see if its ok if not try a little bit more but not loads, its not recovering itself with enough fuel to keep it running thants what i think

Lots of things could be really

carb mixture
timing
tickover adjustment on choke setting and normal setting.
minor air leak.

Screw No 1 is the fast tickover adjustment. (choke on)

No 4 is normal tickover (no choke)

ah, right, so when you have the choke on full, you can adjust the "choke idle" speed. so i will need to crack out the stubby screwdriver

Best adjust it with the choke off, just adjust that screw so it isn't quite touching the choke cam.
