i currently have 2 x InPhase IPA900 amps(http://www.caraudioc...900_p-19723.htm), would these subs(http://www.caraudioc...t12_p-20168.htm) be a good replacement for my previous blown ones. just checking because i feel the fact i listen to rock type music may have lead to the dimise of my old ones(2 x DBaudio Raptor 2's @ 1000w(rms)).

whoops, in a previous topic i stated that the inphase ipa900 was 900w(rms), i meant 1200w peak, so many different figures argh......sorry

it would work i suppose but IMO the amps wont provide enough juice for the subs to run them at their optimum level from what info ive got the amp will put out 350w rms bridged @ 4ohms and the subs can handle upto 700 rms each so if it would probably sound ok but IMO you'd either be better off selling the two amps and going for a decent monoblock and running both subs @ 2ohms or look at keeping your amps and going for 2 subs which don't require as much power and suit the amps better, just my opinion

thanks for your reply but it has brought up another question, how come these amps have blown my old subs which were 1000w(rms), within 2 weeks of each other when the amps were running on half power. i am assuming they have blown due to them tripping the amps everytime i turn my stereo on, also the cones on the subs are very stiff to push in, if you see what i mean.

to be honest id try connecting the amps to another speaker if you've got one lying around just to make sure it is the sub that is blown and not the amp, its more likely to be the amp as it would be struggling to power a sub of twice the power it can produce, also make sure the +ve & -ve speaker wires arn't touching as this would activate the protection aswell, i did have one 2 channel amp which gave up on me and kept setting itself into protection mode, i think you'd be hard pushed to blow a 1000 rms sub with a 350 rms amp but hey wonders never cease !

cheers for that, i think a trip back to the shop is in order as they designed the setup for me and the car doesnt feel the same anymore without a thumping in the back as you drive. they worked ok for well over a year so warrantys out of the question.

You say it's stiff to push the subs in, does it feel like its grinding, as though there's sand in it?

not at all, the only way to put it is as if someone has filled the enclosures with expanding foam, they are almost solid whereas before they were quite flexible.
