
hesitating on quick throttle up

As if u were talking about a modern carb then you might say that the accelerator pump was broken/split ...
BUT leaving the choke on a bit impoves it no end, so this would suggest that it needs more fuel on the initail pedal press !!!( ihave done CO and thats fine by the way)
the kit came with a AAU needle i think it was .. and using a HS SU card (the ones with the float chamber stuck on the side)
i have used 3in1 oil for dashpot with original spring...
is this best ??? as im in the thinking that this is what would effet this problem the most ???
what is the common thing they change if it was roller roaded .. ?
not the needle in this case, as its the initial acceloration im concerned with so its not based on the engine speed as u can feel it when ever u suddenly 'blip' throttle irrispective of RPM.
would thicker oil make it better... gonna try some gear oil maybe ..
or how does a stronge/weaker spring effect it ??

or more specificly what did they change on yours ! lol
just want to know whnat can be changed/adjusted.. to fix this kinda prob ...
as im very confident i can do the work as long as i am pointed at what to do ! lol

theres the CO (obviously),timing and alike..
then needle profiling maybe ?...
what else do they do ?
(as all above i cannot see effect this kinda prob)

I fitted my cone air filter and AAU needle onto my HS4 carb chuck on a maniflow 3-1 manifold, alloy inlet manifold, downpipe and single box centre exit exhaust then took it to a RR.
First thing he did was put it straight on the rollers (with a big blower in front to really simulate a moving car) revving it right up to third, so he knew what he was working with and to get the spec for the before and after info!
Then he filed my needle down as he could see from the graph that it was running weak, especially at the top end of the range. He also tweaked the idle speed and mixture. Once he was happy with that he then kept advancing the timing until he started to lose power then very precisely retarded it to find the optimum power.
Some places might do a bit of a service to go with a tune up. which may include bits like air filter if needed or a more appropriate needle.

As every one else has said, you will not benefit from the money you have spent until the engine has been tuned on the rollers

A descent R R tuner will adjust timing, fueling and fine tune your needle (using an iccle file). Put some thicker oil in (I use power steering fluid), then you have to get it rolling roaded. They will find more power for you and smooth the throttle response out.

and my mpg is better as well!
and my mini just runs better all round as well!

been messing around since my last post !! hence the no posting !!
mini is all ready now for MITP !!!
ok.... so it defo seems that more fuel is required at that point, and RR is required to get the needle profiled better.. not sure were my local one its (im on east coast near nowrich)
i have found that the vacuum advance diaphram is spit etc ..
so fixing that tommorow which will of course improve things .. but unlikly to fix it completely
i can see now that it is needle profile and not oil/spring
as alouh the damper does dampen the rise .. it still rise's to a cirtain point if a sudden throttle up is done ..
PLUS i even try'ed it with the damper completely removed... and with with VERY thick oil in too (gearbox oil) and both similair.. (althou g/b oil was a bit better

was thinking iof trying a bit of trial and error needle profiling but not sure which point is the point i need ..
also puzzles me to know how even RR how they now which point to re-profile ??
is a shame they give out AAU needle which is obviosly not 100% for cone filters etc .. as it seems that we need it rollered after ! ( i understand that most engine's are slightly dif)
but i wunder if there is a bettter needle to start with for these set ups ? ..
and that the AAU needle after its re-profile/RR is close to an already avalible needle ??
maybe a simple test could be done here ... hange needles for example with mine a pooky's and see if its a fix
and then match pookys needle up with an exsisting retail needle ???
possible a future fix
for example ... if your stage one kit as a cone and feels a bit unresponsive then try xxx needle ... ???
its possible folks ?? would be hard to do as we all live far apart etc .
