My mini seems to be misfiring a little bit. i did the night check, and foung that my coil is shorting. there is a large rythmic spark somewhere around the coil (with the usual spark snap noise). i also noticed that the coil contacts glow blue, and discharge onto the ht lead. knackered coil maybe?

thanks

Sounds like the coil top cap is cracked, although even if it is the current will only normally arc to the HT leads if the insulation is dirty and wet or breaking down. Have a good look for damage and if you find any it's probably best to replace both the coil and the leads.

if what dan said does not cure it try replacing the condensor as that can cause those symptons.

hey, quick update. i have ordered a new coil and leads. i recently replaced my points with an electronic module, and after much pestering of the seller (ebay), it turns out that the module doesnt like ballast coils.... that might be the issue
