Amp Problems...

My amp's being a real pain, and I don't understand what the problem is.
It has 2 lights - one for power (green,) and one which says "protect" (red.)
As soon as I turn the ignition on, it will play music absolutely fine, and then after a few seconds it will switch to "protect," and no sound will come out. The stereo however still stays on.
Last time this happened, I thought that it might be a dodgy earth. i replaced it jsut inc ase, but it's still doing it.
Anybody got any other ideas as to what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance
Tom

is normally a bad earth cold be the place where youve attached it does get enough current flow get a multi meter and try and test how much current you get from this earth if its less that 12v it will stop the amp and go into protect mod other option is the amps *melonsed*
Where would you recommend earthing it? It's currently earthed straight through the boot floor. I never had any problems with there before in my previous mini, and the problem hasn't affected this current setup in this mini - only just now...
The bit that confuses me most is that it works for a few seconds, and then goes into protect mode...

hi it could be a power problem i got a problem when i got other electrical things on eg headlights the amp just goes straight into protection mode i need a bigger battery and alternator.
cheers
Hi. it's not this - It doesn't make any difference whether other stuff is on or not and the alternator is perfectly capable... It's not as though i've got a massive set up.
I just want it working, lol...

Protect Led might be indicating something else so its prob best letting us know the amp... Can then check an online PDF manual.
I'd check speaker wiring in the mean time make sure + is + and - is -

I think 1st question should be what amp are you using ?

Yeah check speaker cables, make sure there not shorting on eachother, or the bodywork.

Today, I gave everything a little wiggle and put it all back, and it seems OK for now... pehaps i've fixed it by accident

Thanks everyone for your advice, i'll keep it as is for a couple of days and see what happens..
Cheers

check all rca cables speaker cables and speaker voice coils if they are all ok then one of the fets in the amp is at fault, the indicator is to show either a short on the speakers or a current problem (poor contacts will cause high resistance and as such high amps, amps cause heat not volts) I hope you have a fuse on your battery supply to the amp, I have seen the results of an amp meltdown and it wasn't pretty lol battery acid is a good paint stripper when hot
