I have recently bought a car with some writing airbrushed onto it. The car had been resprayed with several coats of black, then the airbrushing was done on top, then outlined by hand with a pinstriping, then the whole car was clear coated over the top.
My question is - i want to remove the airbrushing and take it just down to the black again, would i be able to wet sand it away down to the black and then put a heavy coat of wax/polish on it, or would i have to just get the whole area resprayed?

you should be able to sand it off with wet and dry, but i would only try it if you were confident of your skills with wet and dry, or it you have the money to respray the pannel if you mess it up.

Personally, i would try with wet and dry first anyway. you might need to paint it anyway, so there is no real harm done in trying is there?

You can but it will show where there is black and where it has been clear coated. The other thing is you will probably allways get a shadow in the reflection of where the graphics once were. ie if you look at a reflection down the side of the car you will see an outline of the graphics. you can polish it flat and smooth but will come back. i have had this a few times the only way i got rid of it was to strip back to bare metal and repaint But that was for a customer on a show car so yo may not need to be so picky.
