I have just striped my 998CC engine out of my 1978 mini. I could not find any valve steam seals.
Should there be any?? If so where abouts will they be?
Thanks

Hiya early 998cc minis dont have them. they were only fitted to later ones and all unleaded ones
I agree, my 1980 - 1098cc didnt have any either. As stated, I only think late leaded and all unleaded engines got stem seals.

Viton Stem Seals
Available from here.

Look in parts sources and tech guides for info.
I have used them for awhile they are superior to the Rover ones.

Well, yes and no. Since these Viton Stem Seals have metal bodies they are quite a tight fit to the guide and with a little Loctite 609 Sleeve retainer, they will stay fixed to non-grooved guides. BTDT

I used the same seals that Terry shows...they are working well.
How are those trailing arms of mine working Terry?

i was under the impression that they were small o rings which fit inside a recess inside the valve guide - Similar to the landrover series one ioe engine and later rover ohv engines.
That is the early type you are thinking of, they were not used for long compared to the later type.
You can get the Dupont Viton seals in the UK (minispares) And you can also get Teflon ones too (Calver ST)
