Thanks guys, yeah I've seen a few in a similar colour now, which is just sods law really, like buying a new car then seeing them everywhere hehe

Got a few prospective jobs lined up over xmas now, fitted a new throttle cable the other day after the other one jammed open. Turned out the inner core had freyed like hell and the garage the MOT'd it must have had something to do with it since i fitted the other one myself not long before and it had moved... fishy... Also the clip on the pedal had vanished, so thats now secured with a couple cable ties until I can source a new clip. Anyone got one? :)

Also the MOT place made a hash of the wiring, and although it now all works, it looks terrible. We're talking blade fuses taped in place and hanging down by the pedals, and this is from a "specialist" electrical garage... yeah right. Had no choice in it though really, as I was in uni and amys mother took it for her. So I'm going to be fitting a couple of fuse boxes over xmas. Also need to paint the battery box because it looks quite bad in that picture, and the servo bell needs finishing. Plus theres a couple of bits to put on here and there. I'll keep it updated ;)

Been a while since i posted here, and while there hasnt really been any progress, there have been a few nasty setbacks.
Mainly the head gasket blowing back in January, putting the car out of action for a few weeks until it could be trailered home from Cardiff. Bit lucky really, as when the head was whipped off there was a couple of valves missing a bit of metal!
This was one of the two exhaust valves that needed changing.

Also had the bores cleaned and the head de-coked and a new carb. Then yesterday I tried fitting the nice shiney RC40 that we had given to us, but it turns out that the nuts that hold the first silencer to the cat had been welded on. So without the use of anything to cut through them I had to give up. Fitted the pressed plates that we've had for ages instead though, so I thought that deserved a picture. Alongside the Cooper which has just had some new spots/fogs fitted

Plus the reason why I desparately wanted to fit that exhaust, the halfords five quid chrome tip that looked great for a while took a nasty salt hit over the winter and despite polishing has turned brown. Also you can just about see the little dash that I knocked up in a couple hours to house the satnav and two digital gauges

Had another crack at fitting the new backbox yesterday, after we took it to quick fit to have them sort out the weld on the studs. Unfortunately the low scraping exhaust of before was not just because of the abnormally large rear silencer but the bracket thats welded to the front of the rear subframe. It was very rusty and had been damaged by the old exhaust catching on stuff, so it doesnt do a very good job of supporting the exhaust and as such it's now just as low as before despite the slimmer box. So a touch of welding is in order, but not til Easter.
Looks and sounds great though, pretty happy with it, finishes off the look of the backend:
