i'm doing a little tidy up of an engine. i already have some hammerite.
i know i probably should use high temp engine enamal, but im a bit skint.

how does hammerite stand up to heat and oil?
or should i fork out and buy some paint? :withstupid:

thanks mark

I have done a few and never had any issues, can go dull but think any non-laquered paint does!

I’ve painted mine with hammerite, has gone slightly dull over the years, but that might be a good thing as mine is bright yellow.

I’ve also painted brake callipers and disks (not the pad contact areas obviously) and haven’t had any problems.

Most paints will actually be fine (even radiator paint or barbeque paint) the most important thing to do is to make sure the block is spotless before painting.

Once you think it's clean,.. spray some carb/choke cleaner on it to make sure. it's likely you'll see some more dirt/grease come off.

cheers for the offer, thats very good of you.
i've only stripped and polished the head so far. was starting so see a few spots of rust appear but i've oiled it now. i'll degrease properly when the rest is done and do it all in one go.

Hammerite only do one shade of yellow, but after 3 coats witch is less than half of the small 250ml tins worth of paint, it should look something like the pick.
