Rover Mini Cooper (Carb model) 1991
Fitting a fuel filter
I want to fit a standard inline fuel filter between the pump and carb. I've been told that the filter should be at or above the level (height) of the carb. Is this correct?
Many thanks to all.

Shouldn't matter, the fuel pump will pump petrol through it whatever height, and the float in the carb will control the level of fuel in the carb.

a filter should be before the pump
whats the point of having a filter but still letting cr@p go through the pump

I think most people fit them just before the carb, you don't read of many people having problems because they have dirt in the pump, its normally sticking float needles because of dirt in the carb.
Plus its a lot easier to change an inline filter fitted before the carb and easier to keep a check on its condition.

easiest place to fit is inside the boot before it leaves via the floor easy to get to and no risk of the manifold getting soaked during fitting
