HI GUYS AND GALS,
NEED SOME ADVICE ON COPY SPORTS PACK ARCHES,
I AM ALMOST READY TO PAINT MY CAR AND ARCHES BUT WONDERED IF ANYONE CAN THROW SOME TIPS MY WAY ON WHAT TO SPRAY MY ARCHES WITH,
I WILL HAVE TO KEY THE PLASTIC I KNOW AS I HAVE TO FILL OVER THE INDENTATIONS THAT ARE IN THE ARCHES LEFT FROM THE MOULDING WHERE THE BOLTS ARE, BUT AS THEY ARE FLEXIBLE, (NOT THE REALLY EARLY SOFT ONES) I DONT WANT THE PRIMER AND PAINT/ LAQUER TO CRACK WHEN I FLEX THEM INTO THE SHAPE ON THE CAR.
CAN I USE NORMAL PRIMER AND LAQUER AND HOW MUCH DO I PUT ON? MORE COATS THE BETTER OR IS LESS, MORE?
REGARDS
CHRIS

If they need flexing to fit the shape of the car then you have either drilled your holes wrong or the arches are the wrong shape.

As for painting them..

Key them with 320 and red scotchbrite,

Fill and sand your repairs till the arches are shaped right,

1 Light coat of etch primer (not needed on plastics but will always give more chance of paint sticking),

3 coats of 2k primer,

Flat with 320 for solid colour or 800 wet for basecoat metallic.

Solid colour goes straight on your 320'd primer, 2-3 coats depending on finish and coverage

Metallic basecoats usually need 3-4 coats at least for coverage and then 2-3 coats of laquer depending on finish and coverage.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick. I also have these arches. They are made from rubber type material and are naturally bendy. You cant hold them without them flopping about. Im also looking for tips on how to paint them.

I gathered that as Ive seen a couple of sets before.

The same applies. Paint will flex and bend (you can buy flexible additive to go in the paint too!) but theres limits to how far, so just make sure they dont bend and flop too much or you'll be painting them again.

thanks Jack / Tom

will be painting the car using cellulose blue sparkle metallic gloss through an HVLP spray system.
however the arches will have to be done with rattle can silver and laquer. can you get 2k primer in rattle cans?

p.s dont talk to me about getting the holes in the right place.... lol. if only someone did templates that actually lined up with the studs before you mounted them......

anyway, what i meant by flex into place was the rear of the arch hangs off the body where it meets the valance under the bumper by about 15mm, so i have to pull it in to the valance where i plan to secure it with a self tapper. doesnt flex much but wasnt sure how much you could flex the paint before it cracked...

Jack as the man in the know is plastic primer for bumpers any good as the first primmer coat or does it have to be acid etch, i have some to spray also but will be using colour match cans for mine as i dont have any spray gear.
Sorry to jump on board.
