Hi guys,

Do you need the special tool to fit the primary gear oil seal??

Whats the best way to fit them without the tool so as not to damage them?

Also do engine to gearbox bolts have to be torqued?? Ives just tightened as hard as possible with my little spanner.

Thanks.

Paul.

Most people wrap insulating tape over the splines on the crankshaft to avoid damaging the new seal.

The engine to gearbox casing bolts are shown in the Haynes manual as being torqued to 6ft/lbs each.

Do you put the seal into the transfer case first, then fit it onto the engine?

a standard 1275 pistons is exactly the right size for pushing the oil seal into the housing. and yeh tape to cover the splines when its installed

Shows that in the haynes but I didnt, was also told by someone else put case on first then seal after using either tape method above or using special tool.

I'd recommend getting the tool, makes it so much easier.

i pulled the primary gear out first, put the seal on the gear, then used a tool for it, but i've used a glass jar before, worked fine but not recommended incase of injury ^^ *disclaimer*

think minisport do the tool?

Still trying to fit this :) .

When I try to tap it in on the one side of the seal the other side pop's out.

Paul.

To install the PS with the transfer case attached to the engine you will need the special tool... or equivalent pipe. Not only is it important to get the seal in far enough it is also VERY important that it is square to the rotational axis of the primary gear, if it is not then it'll pee oil almost from the first start.

Ive finally got the seal in, but just need to know, does it sit flush with the transfer case or is it slightly recessed??

Thanks.

Paul.
