Mini Spi Newb Questions

Me and my buddy took the long journey to the UK to buy minis, we´re from Denmark. I came home with a 1992 Rover mini cooper 1.3 spi with 62.000 miles on the clock, and my mate with 1991 mini cooper 1275 carb.
couple of questions and again sorry for the inconvenience, alot of the questions, i´m sure have been posted before, i just can't find the answers i´m looking fore.
First of all couple of sugestions concerning tuning : I was thinking of a stage 3 kit from either minispares, minisport or minispeed.
Any good sugestions regarding tuning with the maximal performence/value? and with that fitted should i keep the Cat and filter box etc. usual question...?
Second : When this imaginary stage 3 kit is fitted i would have to go rolling road or? can they plug in with the standard ECU and what can they do with it? is it adjustable/programmable?
Any help is very much apreciated, and sorry for the poor english "stupid dane"

That's why I binned the cat on my 1990 Mini Cooper 1275 over a decade ago.

i was running a 1340 spi with a stage 3 head and piper cam, all still on the original ecu. as far as i know you cant reprogramme the standard ecu but aftermarket ones are availiable.
as for the air filter, i changed it to a pipercross induction kit. it looks the business, fits better than the k&n as it actually locks down onto the throttle body, and best of all it has a fantastic induction roar

ps. dont forget about MED and Morspeed when looking at your stage 3 as they are really good at modified engine bits

As long as the injection system is in good order, fitting various performance enhancing parts, the ECU will re learn. When you get to aroiund 85bhp do you need to start doing other things to get the ECU to be a little happier, even then its not great.
If its a 1275/1293 with a modified head, an SW5 cam and the usual exhaust and filters, the standard ECU is fine

the same cannot be said for the carb engine though, that will need time on the rollers to get it tuned

I pushed 100bhp out of my SPi with a standard Mini Cooper ECU and standard cat.

Sweet to hear people know what they are talking about no one in Denmark can tell me any thing thats why i'm a little concerned with testing and the rolling road stuff, but thanks a bunch every one ! But Sprocket it sounds like you know your spi's when fitting the comman stage 3 kit you think its a must with a cam to ?
