Hi I've just bought a '94 sprite. Just a couple of questions as I've never had a SPI before.

Firstly, I know it's a bit late but do you think it was a reasonable deal. '94 sprite, 1275 Spi, 70,000 miles. Body work is solid all the welding/replacing panels has been done. Flip front added. No MOT and is sorn. Engine started first time but I didn't get to drive it as it was in the blokes garden. Just needs filler/ respray and an MOT. paid £575.

Secondly, what do I need to look out for with injection engines? Any tips greatly recieved.

I will be putting up the progress in the projects thread as soon as I collect it.

Cheers

Watch out for crudded electrics to the sensors and splits in the vacuum hose to the ECU. They cause 90% of all SPi / MPi specific problems in my opinion.

as above, the vacuum pipes and sensors can cause trouble, one of the tell tale signs of this, is a up and down tick over! could be really high one minuite and just stopping itself from stalling the next! apart from that, i havent had any trouble what so ever with the engine itself! only had to replace the valve stem seals as they had gone hard (same for any mini that has them fitted really)

I trip the fuel cut off switch on my SPI a few times when i hit pot holes. So remember if your engine stops after a big bump press the button under the bonnet of the passengers side!

I also had a loose on the stepper motor.

I currently have another fault on my spi, but at the moment i have no idea what it is!

bought my old spi with 17 k on it from one lady owner in her 90s. regularly serviced the car when i had it. gearbox started making noses at 30k. think some others have had gearbox problems with them. not to say that yours will be the same.

Mine eats TONS of Lambda sensors... don't run it with a blowing exhaust!
