will a car fail its mot for excessive wiper travel?.. it wipes past the extends of the window.

I think as long as they clear the windscreen efficiently its ok. I had my last MOT with a dead park switch and the wipers extending about an inch past the drivers side of the window and it went through fine >_<

Why not pull 'em off their spindle & put them back a couple of "notches" back?

that would work if it was just a slight problem but the wiper travel is fare to excessive

I'm merely guessing but I would have thought that if the wipers protruded too far off the side of the car (ie further than the mirrors) then it would be dangerous.
