Hello!
I'm a noobwith a damp query. I pulled my carpet back today and it was wet and mouldy looking! The sponge had soaked up water and it was especially wet down in the front where the bung in the pass. foot well is.
I checked those and they seem ok, and on further checking I realised that the back pass. side bung was stuck up/wonky with a big gap in it! I couldn't close it and I was wondering if this may be where the water is coming in and going down the little channel (where some wires are!!) and getting to te lowest part being the front.

I've dried it out and sealed it with bathroom sealant, any idea if that's ok?!

Also, the wires that go from the front under carpet down a little channel to the back were wet which is a bit worrying! I think I've dried them all out now tho.

Any suggestions would be really helpful, the little channel has also started to rust where the moistuire had settled under those wires....is there anything i can do to stop this from getting worse?!

Thanks in advance! :D

pictures first of all.

remove carpets and underlay until back to the floor. make sure it all dries out naturally. if the weather is good and you have a drive, just open the doors and let the heat dry it.

wires will dry out, but make sure they are dry.

its likely that the water might have been there a while, so you really need to strip the carpets and underlay out and let it dry over a good few days of nice weather. take some pics and post them up and i'm sure we can help more.

hey.

when i had a leek i dried it all out and put talc powder down on the floors. then blasted it with a hose pipe. then you can see were the waters coming from. also mite be worth taking the carpets out before putting the talc down as it took AGES to get the talc off the carpit.

hahaha wet talc on the carpet but that looks suspect lol.
good idea tho, i may be tryin these techniques.
although my car had a leak and the seat bins had water sat in them.
so i filled a sock with cat litter and shoved it in the bin;
Did the same on the other side so far worked for that area

with the floor bungd as long as the gromits in good nick they should keep the water out.
i found water gettin in where the heater hoses pass threw the bulk head and from the wheel arch heater air duct.
there lots of places to look lol, they clearly didnt consider at the factory lets make a water tigth car lol.

Hi sorry been offline for a while!
Thanks for your replies, I have removed the carpet and got new rubber bungs to put in. I have found out that some water is dribbling out of the pass side door panel just at the bottom, I thought it was the door rubber at first but now I can see it is coming from behind the panel. My next task is to remove that! All fun and games eh?!
Lastly there is also a little bit of water coming and dripping just above the pedals on the right of where the steering column is. That worries me a lot! Windscreen looks ok but I've read about the bonnet letting in water and having to look behind the A panel?! Sounds like a job for a pro!
Any further sgestions would be much appreciated. I'll put some pics on too x
