Hi
I have 2 questions here

I recently brought a 1987 mini Mayfair with a 1.3 spi engine put in 5 years ago but am having some problems/want some explaining of the componants in my car. I do not know that much about but enough to know my 1.3i should not be level/beaten by a 02 plate 1.1 106 thats for sure.

The car seems like it has a lot more potentional to go faster but it really holds back when i put my foot down and it is a little jumpy when i slow down. The car was serviced just before i had it so i know all the basic stuff should be good on it. Is there anything i can check that is known to go wrong with spi's because i do not know a huge amount about engines but i have brought this car to learn, so any ideas???

The second thing is basically a request to see if anyone would be willing to meet me in the south west, near bristol if possible and explain my engine bay. I ask this because it is jam packed with wires and what looks like filters and i want to know what is what so i can attempt to learn becuase i or any of the people i talk to about the car have no idea about most of the parts within the engine bay.

Hi mate, I don't really know much about the SPi engines, so I can't be a whole load of help in that front, but the modern 1.1 106 engine does have 60bhp, compared to 63 for the SPi engine, and the 106 is a very light car. I wouldn't imagine there would be that much in it really! those 106's are suprisingly nippy.

As for your engine bay, if you posted a pic circling any bits of particular interest to you, I'm sure we could help out naming things.

The most likly reason for this is an air leak in your vacuum tubes going from the back of the throttle body. given your explination the first thing I would look at is the pipe from the back of the throttle body going left to the oil trap on the bulkhead and from their to the bottom of the ECU. Like the other guy said.... post a picture of your engine bay and tell us what you dont understand........ we can take it from their.

Rob ;)
