I have an R Reg (98) Cooper MPi, and as above, the speedo and fuel gauge are a tad out. The speedo is more optimistic than anything, tried it with my dad's sat nav and when the speedo says 60, the satnav says around 48, also when the speedo is around 30 the satnav is 27ish. Wondered if there is a way to make this more accurate?
Also, I do not trust the fuel gauge at all. I filled it to the absolute brim (for £15) the weekend, and from this I get around 100-120 miles before the fuel gauge drops into the red. When I filled up, the gauge was only saying 3/4 for the first hour or so of driving, before steadily rising...
All clocks are standard and I don't believe they have ever been messed with.

Well I guess you could send the speedo off to be recalibrated?
As for the fuel gauge, well it seems to be a common complaint on later Minis and I believe it's to do with the float sender wire (or whatever it's called) inside the fuel tank. Sometimes bending it helps get a more accurate reading?

I just use my fuel guage as a guide, I never 100% reley on it. As for the speedo, sat navs tend never to be accurate, depends what make of sat nav it is and how well it can process infomation. If its still all factory fitted stuff, i.e, engine, speedo, then it should be right, if you had changed the engine or the final drive then I would of started questioning it.

Follow someone around in a modern car, bigger chance that there speedo is more accurate than yours or a satnav. Or find one of those speed cameras that reads out you speed and spend the day whizzing past that.

The satnav gives a perfect reading in my dad's car, '07 Megane GT.
Where is a normal place to get a speedo recallibrated, I've never heard of this before! Lol.
And I will try the "float sender wire" trick later and see if this helps!
Cheers
