Hello people of the cosmic eather.
Well, El Odio (1964 Hornet with later 998cc engine) is giving me problems again. Not "oh dear lordy why!" problems more "stop doing that" problems.
El Odio seems to be skipping a beat while driving along happily. I went to college yesterday but every now and then the engine would skip a beat. I would drive along then I would get a few blips from the engine. Sort of like a cough and splutter, car would judder with each splutter then would carry on.
A one point it did almost die on a hill, which could have been bad. It's almost like fuel starvation (a problem I've had when crap got into the car) but I'm pretty sure fueling is fine (got plenty, good pump, coming out the other end).
So I'm thinking it's a timing thing but I'm none too sure. All the points, condenser, coil are all fairly new. So, I got nothing.
An ideas chaps and chap-ettes.

Okay,
1) BUMP!
2) Checked the carb today as I though it might not have the big damper sping in it. It has one. Also checked the float for blockages and that wasn't it either.
3) Tried checking the mix, it's lean but yanking the choke out doesn't seem to help. I checked with my colour tune and somehow got a white spark ... which seems bad.
4) Tried giving it a bit more advance, didn't help or make things worse so ... ? Less caused the idle to drop.
So, I'm stumped.
Suggestions and pity welcome.

Is it happening at certain revs
my spi mini does this at about 2500-3000 rpm and i've managed to track the problem down to the manifold, one of the bolts that holds it to the head has snapped causing it to blow out exhaust fumes, misfire and lose most of its back pressure
double check your air filter filament to see if its clogged or needs replacing, check your spark plugs and check your timing
sorry for the vague answer but all of the above could lead to your problems and are defiantly worth a look

I had this exact issue before. The rolling road guy removed my vacuum advance pipe and changed the needle and then timed it up. Runs sweet and can climb hills now.

Thats the thing, it seems pretty damn random.
I can drive at 50mph for a good 30-45min but then I try to go off at the lights I get jerking and near car death (like fuel starvation) and then it all sorts of levels out and off I go.
I do seem to be able to force it to happen if I try to drive in high gear at low speed (20mph in 4th) and it will happen a bit, but then it smooths out and off I pootle.
It's happen more when cold (hence my idea of fueling/timing) but smooth out when it heats up but still happen when warm. It's so sodding annoying.
As for carb, well I had fuel problems with my twins so I switched to single and things have been fine for a while but that was about a month ago now or more.

Oh, it also keeps making a weird "poomf" sound via the exhaust.
And BUMP again as I'd like my car to not randomly die on me 22miles from home again.

recheck the points and replace the condensor again.

Aye, think I'll change the condenser and plugs on Monday. The plugs are looking ... funky. One looks a bit melted which seems bad.

Errmm.
You know the points and how their meant to slide with the vac advance. What would happen is they couldn't slide?
As mine don't. Well, didn't.
