Hi,

i recently posted on here asking for some help, anyway i have since found out that not only was my thermostat kapput but my head gasket has gone too.

the question is............

what is the likely hood of the thermostat causing the head gasket to go?

Just trying to asses whether i need a new cylinder head because its already been skimmed 2/3 times.

Thanks for any help.

if your head gasket keeps going after overheating you should replace the stat immediately first time. also you could have warped the block in extreme circumstances. but as for likelyness it is feasable cause i would say.

well if the thermostats not opening to allow the cool radiator water into the engine then there will be no flow so u will just boil the water in the engine and blow the gasket

thats my understanding anyways :genius:

if u take head off and put a level accross it then get some feeler gauges and try sliding them under the level all the way along the head n see if its warped and needs skimming

hope this helps and im not wrong or ill be in trouble according to the banner!

To be honest mini heads are made in such a way they'll take quite a beating. They're not made of weaker alloy so really you should be fine unless you drove for miles with the water boiling...

It was around 3 years ago when it went, it literally went as i pulled on the drive i think. Its been garaged since then and now ive finally got round to getting it back on the road. Needs a new cill after sorting the head then its off for a mot. Cheers
