Model: Austin Mini 1000 City E
Year: 1982
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Right, my car is fairly standard, so there is drum brakes all round, and to be honest they are pretty awful compared to modern brakes. I have 10" wolfrace slotmags (Really rare!!)

Was looking at upgrading to disc brakes, not sure if I want just front discs, or discs all round - but i know they are more expensive to get converted and keep 10" wheels. I have found a kit for brakes all round which will fit uinder my existing brakes for £470 from PL mini's. Anyone got these - are they any good? what are my other options? Is it cheaper to get 12" wheels and cooper discs or something

Help me please! Thanks!

Drum brakes can work well but need to be kept well adjusted. Cooper S discs will fit in 10 inch wheels, there's the odd set of alloys that don't fit, dunno about yours for sure.

You could buy a conversion kit - cheaper with TMF+ discount, might even be a group purchase coming up soon for an even bigger saving. You can also use the swivel hubs off late disc braked Minis so you might save a few quid by finding some 2nd hand.

I'm running 10" rims, with drums all round, and have no problems with them at all, like Ethel said its just a matter of making sure the system is in good condition with no leaks and adjusted properely.
There was a point where I was tempted by the conversion to disks, but once I found a weeping brake cylinder which was the cause of my poor brakes soon decided against it.

1984 non servo, drums all round.

I picked up a post-'84 12" disc set up, fitted that, then used a 12-10" conversion kit to downsize it. Worked out about £270ish to do >_<

i have the same dilema, i have a 78 850 with drums all round, soon to be a 1275 turbo so an upgrade is needed unless i intend to die! i realy want 10's but i can save sooo much money if i go for 12's so thats what im going to do.
4pots under 12's, then when i have extra cash go 7.5" cooper s brake >_<

P.S unless your running a monster of an engine rear disks are a bit overkill!

i had drums for a year, converted to discs not too long ago, best thing ever, braking alot more better and you dont have to keep adjusting

The disc hub set up was from either here or the mini club, and was £40, and then as saxo said, minispares, minisport, infact any of the parts/performance retailers should be able to sort you with a 12-10 kit.

Nice! Do these clear 10's then? I guess the plate allows room for alignment too then? I don't think I've seen civic brakes done before >_<

yeah they do clear the 10's

this conversion is popular here in sweden as we dont have metro's to take the hubs from it would mean that we would have to import them from the uk and that can be expensive

like said before. dont really need discs at the back. get front converted where most of the braking is and you can controll it. otherwise the car will like to spin when you brake
