Anybody know if you can 'upgrade' the bulbs that light the smiths 52mm guages as mine are rubbish and i can only just make out the dials at night!

You can easily replace the bulb holder bit with something more modern, LED's perhaps, although im not sure how that would look in the speedo then. Definitely brighter though!

I just did this last week, changed my smiths oil pressure to a blue LED to match my dash and sportspack gauges. Looks really nice.
The bulb for the Smiths is a 2w LED and the others are 5w.
Must get a photo of them all lit up.

Did you buy them online? Also did you have to upgrade any wiring/fuses and are they just plug and play?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if anyone has an idea what LED bulds you can use too. The bulbs for Smiths gauges (centre speedo) are screw in types and i've never seen LED alternatives available - but I guess I might not be looking in the right place?

Anyone know where to get them/wire them up? Electrics are not my strong point!

if they are the later capless w5w bulbs, led versions are readily available on the net, but you will have to measure the hole in the clock to make sure the led bulbs fit!
If you have the screw in ones you will need to fit capless bulb holders, again, available off ebay for a few pounds.

ive tried mounting 10mm super bright LEDS to the gauges, and it didn't work! simply because the light on a LED is directional where as a bulb spreads the light everywhere, after scrapping changing the bulbs to leds ive now got
these

and some blue 501 wedge type bulbs
i havnt tried them yet, will let you know how it goes
as for wiring them in, either cut the existing wire to the bulb and solder/heat shrink them to the new holders wires or trace them back into the loom and replace from there

Such as these?
Yeah. I bought these exact ones and the work fine. just a positive and earth needed with spades to connect. Easy.
Then some W5W capless bulbs, which you can get most places, like the blue ones above. The Led ones will probably only be found on the net for a good price.
