Hi all, I'm having some problems which I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on!
Description of problem: I've been having cooling problems for a few months now, and so me and a friend did a thorough job of flushing by removing the radiator and filling/emptying etc as well as running water through the system whilst the car was running. The thermostat was also replaced as it had probably been gummed by the mucky water....One thing went potentially wrong - whilst running the car and pouring water into the coolant tank, plug number 1 came lose (it had been taken off earlier) and was sparking against the engine. We cut the engine shortly after obviously.... All seemed well anyway, and I moved the car a short distance that night with no problems.
Upon starting the car the next day it was clearly misfiring, and the rev counter did not work. Since then we have changed the plugs and leads, as well as the coil- we used a multimeter on the old coil and found the resistance on terminals 1 and 4 to be off the scale (presumably no continuity). The last thing we've done is replace the coil, and we were sure this would fix the problem but alas it still misfires on the same cylinders (1 and 4). We also checked the continuity of the wiring between the ECU plug and the coil plug and all seemed fine. Now all we can think is to look at the ECU...is it possible that the dead coil has triggered some kind've "limp-home" mode which the ECU maintains despite the new coil, or is their more likely an additional problem on top of the now-fixed coil? Could the loose spark-plug mentioned during the flushing work have shorted something or other?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

Souns similar to a problem some one else had. It sounds like the ignition driver in the ECU is fried. You will have to take the ECU out and send it to some one like APT or BBReman to have it tested and repaired.

Yup, Problem now with ECU. The tach runs off of one half of the coil pack, so when the ecu grounds a side that pulse is also sent to the tach circuit but since you are not seeing a tach response, that means that the ecu is not sending the signal on that side of the coil, hence the misfire. Send the ecu out for repair.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm going to send the ecu off to ecu-doctor for a fix - hopefully this will solve my problems!

Can anyone recommend a competent "Doctor" in the East Midlands area that can check out an ECU?
