orr man that sucks.

Got mine from mini sport... only because they have them cheaper... as money is a little tight seeing as i have left work to go back to college full time.

From what people have said on here, the best stage one kit to get is from minispares.

Yer i can't wait to get it on, also can’t wait to put on the 12G295 head I am hoping to get hold of…. It should really go after I get that one XD

Well i preferred the inlet manifold, air filter and exhaust manifold from minisport, but didn't like the look of thier exhaust.

So i'm going to get the stage one half kit from them, and then the straight through pipe and single RC40 back box from minispares.

And oooh a 12G295! Been looking out for one of those... Should produce some good power, with that.

I've also been looking into getting the standard head reworked, with some seeerious porting.

If you haven't already got Dave Vizard's book on tuning the A series, i highly recommend it.

Well, not much progress really, just generally driving around a lot.

Had a bit of a security scare, so decided it was best to fit an immobiliser.

Here he is:

Whilst you're a learner, you're best bet is Quinn Direct. Mine's insured in my dad's name, with me as a named driver, and it's £300 and something a year.

Once you've passed, Footman James (who specialise in classic cars) also do a young driver's policy. Apparently this works out at £550 a year for a 17 year old male with zero no claims, but i haven't passed yet so can't confirm it, it may be wrong.

Cheers for the interest, Paul.

love the color and spots.

i fitted a stage 1 kit to my 998 and it runs way better at dual carriageway / motorway speeds now. accelerates a bit more violently, too. and sounds sweeet (its a centre exit twin pipe DTM).

mine was a minisport half kit, and the inlet manifold and LCB needed the cutouts/holes for the studs drilling out cause they wouldnt fit. also was a sportex backbox and was a *censored* to fit. all worth it though.

really needs rolling roading to get the best from it, which i havent done since i now have my eye on mini with a stage 2 1380 engine.

Well, time for a bit of an update.

STILL haven't got the CV boot and wheelnuts, but it's a good thing i didn't, because a quick look underneath revealed that the inner CV boot has split as well, flinging oil/grease in a nice neat line, over everything.

On the upside, made a start on the passenger's door, which thankfully wasn't as rotten as the driver's, so should have that finished tomorrow.

On even MORE of an upside, won a full exhaust on ebay last night, everything from the cylinder head back, for £30 =D Dad got it home for me tonight, and on closer inspection, it's a 2" bore Sportex single silencer system. Hoping to get it fitted tomorrow once the door's done, and then get the mixture fettled again after the change of back pressure. ;D

On the final upside, Alexander now has an antenna, stolen from my 1983 Land Rover, which didn't have a radio anyway.

So, after tomorrow, the to do list is:

CVs
Wheel nuts
Set of Hilos, to bring the front end up
Air filter
Possibly a change of needle, or just twin carbs
Rolling road tune-up

Cheers, Paul

Sounds like good progress Paul.

Think about it when doing the CV boots, I had to change them all and the amount of times I got the order of putting stuff back together was unbelievable!

Where are the pics though!

Out of interest why are you fitting Hi-Los to raise the front? If the front is currently sitting too low and the car hasn't been lowered already then I'd say your rubber springs are sagging and need replacing.

Thanks, nice to know someone else is reading along. ;D

As for CV boots, still unsure whether to get just the boots and grease (inner and outer, drivers side) or brand new joints. I have been driving the car for aaaages, presumably with little/no grease in the joints. Thing is, i can't tell whether the joints are making a 'grinding' noise on full lock (which would indicate knackered joints) because on full lock, all i can hear is my tyres rubbing on the arches.

Hmmm.

Right, i have a rather big update on the way, with loooots of pics. But for now, some recent news of what i got up to yesterday.

I PASSED!! =D

That's my driving test by the way. >_<

Alexander's now my daily drive to and from school, and work, and anywhere else.

His exhaust is now fitted, and he sounds a loooot meatier, just needs a new carb needle (ABD), air filter, and inlet manifold.

Detailed update and pics to follow

Hey congrats on passing. I'm planning on getting a Stage 1 kit too very soon. I'm worried about how much it'll affect my insurance premium, how much are you paying for yours after you've fitted it?
