Hello,

I'm just updating some information on the website, in particular the Classic Mini Custom Products page, including information and a few photos regarding custom covering options.

Anyway...

I've found suppliers for a large range of 'different' fabrics including animal print, check vinyl, carbon fibre look etc. but I can't find a decent union jack fabric anywhere. I have found suitable beach towels and nylon flags that could do the job, but to be honest I'd rather not use them as they would feel cheap.

The one union jack fabric I have found is a design that has lots of smaller multiple union jacks on the roll, but what I am really after is a large union jack, that would say cover a door card...

Has anybody found any in the past? If so where did you find it??

I've seen numerous 'things' in Mini's covered in union jack fabrics, but, never looked close enough to see if people have just used beach towels and flags, or if it is a proper upholstery fabric.

Thanks in advance
Roberts

The only one I could find with fewer flags in the repeat.....

Click!

Could you maybe make your own union jack panel of fabric, just use seperate bits of red, blue and white to make it? I'm half way through sewing my own cushion like this, its fairly easy ;)

Other than that just buy actual flags?

haha that's the same site I had previously found good old google!!

Yes I could make the pattern, and am willing to do so, but I want to keep the price of my standard products down as much as possible, if possible. I have recently made somebody a custom check boot lining kit using that method, as they wanted bigger checks to anything that either of us could find.

However, I am after the union jack vinyl as a standard door card covering, so I was hoping to find one that would allow me to sell it at the same price as the 26 colours of plain vinyl and other more interesting fabrics I have sourced. Obviously if I end up having to make the patters its going to cost more as I am sure you are aware, time unfortunately = money in business.

as for the flags i mentioned that ;)

Thanks for the help much appreciated!!

and jees this has been a long day, absolutely blagged my head writing that...

no worries!

hmm yeh the flags are usually a bit cheapy fabric. Vinyl would be a lot better.

By the powers of google :) I just found this tutorial which has some good pics of union jack door cards here

It looks like the vinyl is printed, it may be screen printed or may be done on a wide format, can't quite tell.... I would offer to screen print some vinyl for you for next to nothing but it would mean using my giant screen (which I hate), and I'm not sure the inks and binder I've got would adhere to vinyl well enough for doorcards....sorry.

Maybe try a sign writers? They might be able to do it if you provide the vinyl!

Firstly, yes they look great those, but no idea how they 'feel', I think they look a little shiny to 'feel' nice, and the interior is all about how things 'feel'.

Secondly, I've been looking at prices for screen printing vinyl... once again its a little more expensive than I would like for a one-off print and I would need to get 10+ printed at once, to keep the price down.

So, it was back to trying to find a place that mass produces printed vinyl and sell it, which nowhere in the united kingdom seems to do. A post for you helpful beavers was my last call... and despite your help you have only suggested everything I have already done (I suppose great minds think alike).

I think union jack door cards are just going to have to be more expensive!!

union jack bedroom - as in buckinghm palace nd prince charles old bedroom lol

as a temporary measure why not cut a couple of templates out of asitate (spelling) on for the blue parts and one foe the red.

i bought a boot linning kit that had the cooper laurels sprayed onto the vinyl with what looks like car paint.

maybe you could try this on some white vinyl?

ahh ha sorry though that was the name of somebody from the forum :) got ya now :-

Yeah I'd rather not use stencils ad spray paint, you don't get the crispness of line that I would like. I think I'm just going to create my own union jack fabric using the three colours, unfortunately its just going to have to cost more!

on the plus side I have just sourced flexible carbon fibre sheet :D
