Im fairly new to then injection system and the mini i have is holding back when i accelerate and i want to get to the bottom of it. I have brought some inject clearer that goes in the petrol tank but ive also been told to see if it has an airleak. Can anyone guide me through how I check this.
Its a 1987 mayfair with a 1.3 spi engine added to it and its an engine bay mess.
can anyone help??

The way i do it is get the engine running, and spray wd40 or carb cleaner or something over the inlet. When you hear the enigne note change, you know that the wd40 has been sucked in, and thats where your air leake is

between the head and the air filter is the area your looking at
at the back of the engine but the top end
at the back of the engine but the top end

If you take the air box off and follow the pipes going in. Any joins or visible gaskets can cause the problem. Look at the joints first as sometimes you can see the damaged area as dust gets sucked it. As was said before spray wd40 or carb cleaner round the joins the engine normally revs slightly higher as these are sucked in through the gap. (if present)
