Hi,

Can any one recommend a good air filter for my mini. I have a HIF44 on a Mini Spares manifold from the stage1 kit. I currently have a Simota 'K&N copy' cone air filter but after reading on here and an article on Mini Spares website I am a little confused.

Is the Simota any different from the K&N? Should I be looking at stub-stacks or pancake filters instead of the cone type?

Any info to help me choose would be fab.

Thanks
Ash

P.S. Other mods include Maniflow Stage 1 LCB, MG Metro head and cam and a full Fletcher exhaust is on its way.

To be honest i don't think the K&N copys perform much worse (if at all) than the real deal. If you make any serious changes you may have to take the car to a rolling road to get the mixture/needle changed. I'd leave it as it is as long as its filtering the air.

Pancake filters will loose you power/air flow, and foam filters aren't the best at filtering according to vizzard.

Stub stacks/ram pipes may give you a couple of extra BHP if you find the most suitable ones, the problem comes trying to find a filter that'll fit over them.

I've been meaning to take the car to a rolling road for a while anyway as it's still never seen one if that makes a difference? I wanted to make sure I had a good filter before taking it to the RR.

Is it easy enough to fit a ram pipe? I'm not sure how much room I have behind the carb - I know it's not a lot.

Yeah ram pipes just fit onto the airfilter mountings, so you might need longer bolts to go through the filter and ram pipe.

The problem isn't bulkhead clearance (theres enough to fit a good 3-4" ram pipe) the problem is finding a filter deep enough to cover the ram pipe without restricting air flow. A cone filter is only about 1.75" deep, so won't fit over an resonable sized ram pipe

Hi again,

What do people think about this filter?

MED Filter

It looks the part but it does seem pricey.
