Ok guys as i am a total mong when it comes to anything mechanical i thought i would ask here about an exhaust system.
Been told that the rc40 twin box is the best for power on my engine but what it doesn't say is whether it is for a cat or no cat engine or doesn't it matter?
Does my car have a cat?????? I haven't got a clue.
here is the kit http://www.minispare...=...p;tc=1&au=1
Will this fit my car ok and why is the twin box better than the straight through system?
Any help is appreciated.

An RC40 on a Freeflow type manifold will be ideal for your car.
People tend to mis-use exhaust terminology. Straight through is actually a design of exhaust silencer box, where the pipe runs straight through the middle of the box and is perforated and surrounded with wadding. This is different from a baffled box where the inside of the box is open but baffled. The term has come to also be used to mean a pipe that runs in a straight line though so be careful about what you are describing. The RC40 uses straight through boxes, nomatter what pipe layout you choose. Interestingly the side exit, twin box type is better for a Mini in terms of engine breathing but what you choose to fit depends on what you like the look and sound of really. There's more to designing an exhaust than you might think. It's about restraining and timing gas flow as much as its about letting the gas escape. The A series engine likes a degree of back pressure and due to the head design and the cam layout the rhythm in the exhaust is very important as it helps draw fresh charge into the engine. That is true of many engines.
Your best bet is to get a properly designed Stage 1 kit, developed for your engine. This will allow the engine to liberate the most use from the new exhaust. In my opinion Mini Spares have the best developed kit.
