Hog, the 1995 cooper 1.3Spi

Current -
K&N filter
Full RC40 Exhaust system with LCB Manifold

Hog is coming off the road soon and while I'm replaceing his front end I'll have the engine out so I'd like to do a few small mods to increase his power. There's lots of info out there on what to do with the Carb A Series but not as much on the SPi, I was thinking Head, Cam, Rockers, vernier duplex timing gear but don't know which would complement each other well and work well with an SPi so was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas of what to get ;)

Basically, given a budget of around £700 what would you do to your engine to increase BHP..

Later this year to follow will be suspension upgrades.

Bit more than £700 but in your case cam rockers and timing plus a mild tuned exchange head should clear the £700 easily.... as long as you do the work yourself...... if you add labour You might be lucky if you can get someone to get the engine in and out for £700....lol

This is what Git had... I've no idea of costs etc as it was all done by the previous owner.

Engine:
1293cc (+0.020 overbore) complete rebuild a 86,535 miles
Kent MD274 Injection camshaft
MED race crank
Duplex timing chain and gears
Big valve ˜Jonspeed Racing" cylinder head (35.6x29)
Bronze guides, double springs 1.5 ratio roller rockers.

Brakes:
Front, Metro 4 pot callipers on Metro vented discs, EBC Green stuff pads.
Rear, Standard drums.

Yeah, I read through that whole thread after searching for SPI Tuning and while it gave me an idea of what's possible it didn't help that much because I'm pretty clueless over what could be swapped in/out or left off of that set up.

What I'm after is a list of parts that would be a good combination to tune the engine up slightly

All the work I'll be doing myself or with help from the other guys at the workshop I'll be using.

The Engines done 85k miles, you think it's worth a rebuild while it's out before any work is done to it? I haven't noticed any real problems with it, the usual oil leaks and such but it still runs smooth and doesn't smoke.

So something like below?

Kent 274SP Cam Kit
Timing Gear.
Stage 3 Head. - http://www.minisport..._HEDMS5017.html
1:3 Roller tip rockers. - http://www.minisport..._MSLMS0483.html

Or go for higher lift rockers and a milder cam?
