I just wanted some people's opinions on the speakers im looking at getting.

I was looking at:

JL XR525-CXi 5.25" Coaxial
JL XR650-CXi 6.5" Coxial

I just wondered how good they are and i also wanted to know if they should be used with a sub as i didnt really want to use one.

Thanks
Mike

Not to sure. But if you are going to spend alot of money. Id advise Components and Tweeters rather than Coaxial...

Small speakers dont give off much bass at all. If they are mounted on dense wood, they will be a bit bassier but not much.

Im guessing ur gonna put 1 set in the back and 1 set in the front? For the price of two sets of coaxils I would just get one set of comps and mount them in the front of the car the quality would be alot better and u wouldn't have soundstage, imaging problems etc...

Yeah, i was planning on putting them in the front and back.

Any recommendations for a good set of components?

Would it be a benifit or drawback if i had a set of comps in the back aswell as the front?

Thanks for the help.

Whats ur budget?
It's normally always a drawback to have anytype of speakers in the back other than sub's, because sub's produce Non directional frequencies so it doesn't matter where they are placed in a system. Where as all other speakers are directional meaning u can pick up where the sound is coming from. So if sound is coming from behind u, u will pick this up which is a BAD thing. The human ear is design to pick up sounds facing u the best that why when ur trying to hear something u face it.

Any type of speaker other than a sub can't produce sub bass note's really without spending thousands. So u see to get good sound quality u really need a sub or else u would be missing an essential part of the musical frequency. It's not just for boom boom type music

This is why a good systems can usually be as simple as comps in the front and a sub in the back, this way the whole musical frequency is covered. However u said u didn't want to get a sub so there are alternatives but it depends on ur budget.

I would be willing to pay up to around £250 for a set of speakers if you recommend only using one set.

I was told that an 8" sub would suit the type of music that i listen to (Fast paced metal and hardcore). Is this true and any recomendations if decide to install 1?

Thanks

If u really don't want a sub in the boot u could get either Genesis 6x9's and put them under the rear seats or a pair of jl audio 6.5" subs under there or even squeeze a 8" sub under there. U can get some nice comps for £250 Id go for 6.5" as the bigger the midbass dimameter the lower the midbass notes will drop, which may mean u are happy without a sub. Are u using a amp to run them?

These are amazing sound quality comps:

Slightly less SQ but still very good but with more bass:

Something in between them both:

If u heard a set of them then u may not say that. At the end of the day yes they'll be out of most people's price brackets and alot of people's car won't cost that but like anything there are people who's lives are dedicated to ICE and to them they would spend that. U can get a HU for £6k, comps for £10k, sub for £6k, battery for £1k+, cabling kit for £1.5k and that without alot of other essential so u see to the pro's that isn't stupidly overpriced.

I hadn't really thought of an amp, i know it would improve them to use one, but would it be ok to run any of those speakers off the HU while i get the cash together for an amp?

components ! all the way ! but remember you'll need crossovers!
subs -bass, mids-high midbass n vocals, tweeters-high tone n treble!

have any speaker do all of this it wont take it for long !
and amps are cerainly worth saving up for ! 10 fold !

i ran boston acustics in my last car and it was flawless! took it to a silvestone sound off comp in 99 it came 6th! £2,750 complete install.inc wire alpine head unit !etc first place had spent £9000+

jl audio are damn good size dont matter ! go for high quality ! trust me it pays !
you can have a 100 watt speaker blow your doors off running off a 35 watt amp
and have 250 watt running off 150 watt amp and sound poo!!!!
(examples not specific)so down shep! lol

Well after deciding on the speakers scarface recommended i have decided i may aswell get a sub that will fit in the back.

I really wanted something that will fit under the rear seats, but the only 6.5" subs i could find were these:

6.5" Subs

I was thinking of fitting to 6.5" subs in a speaker board under the seat.

Any idea if the JL ones will be any good and if not any other recommendations for a 6.5" sub that will suit what i need and maybe a good amp to power 2 of them?

Thanks
Mike

There good little subs, another alternative where the gensis 6x9 subs I mentioned here's a link: http://www.caraudiod...a7809b2419b3733

as for a amp:
http://www.caraudiod...c4d41e3f4efe349

the reason I suggest this is because u can then run a pair of subs of this amp quite easily and ur comps of it for know until money allows u to get a better SQ amp although this will be quite good, then u can bridge the 4ch down to a 2channel amp and give the subs abit more power aswell.

Forgot to ask what comps did u decied on?
