The knuckle joint on one side of my cars front suspension seems to be disintegrating.

Can I replace the knuckle joint by using the cone compressor and then remove the joint, or do I have to remove the suspension top arm etc to get it out.

Any advice welcome, thanks

It can, usually, be done with the top arm in place but it's easier to take the arm out. It also helps to get the new nylon cup seated properly and keep the rubber boot in place.

I'm looking at replacing these when i fit my new shocks and hi-los next week, hopefully can be done in place easily enough - got new knuckle joints from minispares for £3.11 each lol! :)

Thanks for the speedy replies!

I will give it a go with the top arm in place, I was wanting to know if it would be a straightforward evening job (does it ever work like that?) or was I in for a long haul.

Thanks again.

u'll need to release the top arm from the swivel pin balljoint to replace the knuckle joint, cant do it with top arm connected..

It is possible to separate the cone from the trumpet and lift it free with the arm in place but doesn't always work out like that! Personally I'd take the opportunity to give the top arm the once over it should be easier than removing the cone. Slacken the rear nut on the pin, then the front you can then undo the little bolts on the retainer plate and unscrew the pin from the rear nut.
