it's just about installed..

made up a bracket to hang the head unit under the switches:



then mounted speakers under the dash



drivers side is the same as the photos above. the speakers are mounted in speedo binnacles of all things!

perfect fit!

now just need to put in a sub somewhere.

well more at your knees... but speakers in the doors of most cars point at your ankles so whats the dif really. it sounds great, it's mid range, so not too directional.

there's always a need for comromise in a mini, and that is it in this case! they don't stick out too far like all the other pods and stuff you can buy or people make.

What size are those speakers? I might steal that idea!

on passenger side yes, but on drivers side in the early minis there's a welded on duct for the screen demister which gets in the way. .would have to shorten/cut the speedo/speaker housing to fit which I don't really want to do! Also I like having all the shelf space free to use!

Very good, although I think the headunit looks a bit too modern for the car, as is usually the case with Mk1/2 dashboards. Its a shame really that there arent more options for retro looking stereos that dont break the bank. Nice bracket though, looks good under the switches.
As has been said about the speakers, compromise is paramount in a tin can that rattles on its own while driving, without the addition of rumbly bass lol. They look good and I'm sure they will sound fine since the tweeters are atleast pointing in the right direction. Think you might benefit from increasing the angle a bit though, more tilted upwards. Novel place to put them aswell, I like it

Well I just sorted the speakers out a bit more, sealed the enclosures better, put some flash-tac on the dash shelf, and it sounds even better! It really doesn't sound any worse than speakers in the dashboard. If anything they sound better as they are in proper sealed enclosures.

I do like that clarion, but it still doesnt look retro enough for a classic car. Its annoying really, since the whole Chip Foose classic modernization culture is always growing, you'd think there would be hundreds of retro units to choose from

Hey, Moss Europe do a very retro head unit! only prob is does not have a CD slot, not sure if you can attach a CD changer tho? but picks up radio and comes ready for MP3 attachment.
