The condition of the battery or its mounting isn't included in the test, so you will be fine.

Whilst battery security is checked it is only an advisory matter if it is found insecure.

On my last mot I forgot to put the strap back on the battery so was just sat there. Passed but had an advisory saying 'battery insecure' Oops!

Mine passed fine with no advisory, it holds it self in place as it only just fits in the hole, as its a big heavy duty diesel battery of a vauxhall.

This is the type of clamp you need to secure the battery

The elasticated strap which stretches between the two hooks is only to hold the cover in position.

Yes believe it or not some people do try to thread the closed eyelet into the securing hole in the body bracket. I can't imagine why though. It's simple and the closed eyelet makes the clamp and easier to use if fitted properly. It should be bolted to the bracket through that hole, the same bolt also holds the end of the rubber strap for the cover. This means the rear end of the bar that you can't get to easily behind the battery is permanantly fixed. Only the front end is designed to un-clip.

Fix it down properly, its hardly difficult.
No, the battery wont shift normally, but if you ever decide to park your mini upside down in a hedge, are you certain your battery leads are secure enough to hold it in place as you roll? and do you want a loose battery flailing around in a metal compartment possibly causing a short, especially when there is the petrol tank next to it?

Would anyone be willing to show how the battery is secured in the boot with the OEM hardware and strap. Thanks. I should clarify that I have an 1989.
