are the ht leads ok?

I just got home, i might be around later if you need me Beno, but i can only think this is down to setting rather then the engine.

Have you tried another dizzy?

Since it sounds like you've done a complete engine swap, start with checking the basics.

As mentioned, the firing order is 1-3-4-2 with the plug leads going CCW around the cap. Number one spark plug lead should be somewhere in the vicinity of 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Your #1 spark plug will be the one closest to the water pump. (Verify this is so by looking at where the rotor is pointing on the cap when you've got the timing marks lined up). If you're running points, make sure they are gapped correctly. Finally, once those have all been checked, check the static timing and set it for what is correct for your engine. If you don't know and can't have a resource... guess at 5 BTDC and you should be able to get the engine to start.
