hi, i have a standar 1991 998cc fitted with a HIF carb. had the head skimmed due to overheating, and when i reattached the carb the car wouldnt start. it was running fine untill then. when i did get it started it was kickin out a lot of smoke, running a very rich miture. after adjusting the mixture and the float level, i managed to get the engine ticking over but only with the choke fully open. as soon as i try to open the throttle, the revs die down instantly until it cuts out. can any one help??

Seems an easy one but do you have you topped up the dashpot oil?

Dont worry about smoke or anything just yet, that's normal if you've stripped your engine down, its probably just burning any oily fingerprints or excess gasket sealant ect away...

How long have you had your engine running since you've fired her back up? You may just need to let it get warm and run everything in so everything can settle again.

there is oil in the dash pot as well. the smoke thats coming out the back is thick and blue so i think its runnig far too rich. the problem actually stated in scotland after i changed the head gasket. once warm, the revs would die down as soon as im off the throttle. cold seemed to be fine. after i managed to get her runnin, it was only a day later that it wouldnt start. is a HIF carb the right one for a 998cc or should i look into a replacement part...?
cheers
