i have a missfire only on cylinder 3 all the time. i put new plugs, leads, condensor, coil, points, rotor arm, dizzy cap on it and it was fine for about 5 hours running time and then it just started running on 3.

any thoughts would be really appreciated

cheers

the head gasket was done recently too

Do a compression test. Number should roughly be the same, even though the head gasket has been replaced has the head been torqued down properly? Could be that the head needs skimming.

Paul.

if you are certain the ignition side is ok get a cylinder leakdown test done, a compression test doesn't really tell you anything.

why did the old head gasket go by the way ??

Could be a number of things, Why was the head gasket done, was the head de-coked & cleaned, did you inspect the head, did you have the valve out, could be a small airline crack in the head, could be a poor seating valve, a compression test would give you some idea of a problem cylinder.
