please correct me if I have this wrong, but all MPi's from 96 onwards have OBD2 ports??

if they do, do they monitor speed - ie how fast you are actually going - and if this is the case, how is that information / data collected?

I need to find a way to integrate OBD2 to a non mpi engine, purely to gather info / data for:

# Vehicle Speed
# RPM
# Fuel Consumption
# Engine Coolant Temp
# Fuel Pressure
# Calculated Engine Load
# Throttle Position
# Intake Manifold Pressure
# Air Intake Temp
# Timing Advance
# Mass Air Flow
# Fuel Level
# Barometric Pressure
# EVAP System Vapor Pressure
# Fuel Trim

this is the weird bit - I dont want the ecu to actually run the engine - just monitor the above so i can create a digital dashboard of a fairly unique nature.
its a long shot but worth a go.

cheers

martin.

have you tried a performance meter....

such as www.race-technology.com AX22 or similar as these will down load to a pc :)

I didn't think any Mems was OBD compliant? Simple enough though if it hasn't got an electronic speedo/sensor it can't do speed obd or not.

And as I sell MPI speedo cables that appears to conclude that speed will not be possible via an MPI ECU...................

On the other hand a performance meter uses an accelerometer or a GPS sensor, can you perform electronic "wizardry" and couple up an accelerometer to a Laptop or some other computer type device.....

good stuff thankyou martin, i'll call them tomorrow to see if their kit will give me the signals i need, and just how their PC interface works. clever stuff though.

on the atatched PDF is does begin to suggest that the majority of later lucas ecu's are OBDII compliant, but I thought that meant it had to have speed signals?? to meet the requirements of OBDII compatability????

Not sure about the OBDII linking with Speed sensor, its a few years since I have seen the regs on OBDII, however I do know that the performance meter can use a USB cable... there are books about to explain how to get it to link up and read etc..... look on the Bay...

Not something I really know about but it could be possible that the MPI ecu is compatible with a speed transducer but just doesn't use one on a Mini? It could be a major can of worms fitting one and sorting the firmware though.

The MPi is NOT!!!! OBDII complient. It may have the same 16way socket, but it is NOT!!! OBDII.

OBDII is from about 2001 onwards, the 16pin socket has been used for years since about 1995, VW's & Fords used them i think there are some other manufacturers as well.

So do you just want to use the ECU to moniter the outputs? and does it have to be OBDII?
