Fit the distributor drive so the slot is vertical. Fit the distributor, fit the rotor arm.
Now then, this is the important bit. Note which way the rotor arm points, fit the dizy cap and mark the body of the distributor that lines up with the closest plug lead to which way the rotor arm points, this will be noted as plug number one. Remove the cap and then align the mark on the distributor body with the center of the rotor arm. Tighten the clamp , fit the cap, connect the plug leads anti clockwise in this order 1,3,4,2 making sure plug one is connected to the dizy cap where you marked the distributor.

Set the engine to TDC on number one cylinder with both valves closed.
Fit the distributor drive so the slot is vertical. Fit the distributor, fit the rotor arm.

Thats a great help thanks! Espescially the bit about the dizzy drive slot and i forgot the dizzy runs anti clockwise!!
Just one thing...after i posted i found the bit in haynes that suggests i fit the dizzy drive slot horizontal and once the skew gears engage its at about 30-45 ish degrees diagonal and then to fit the dizzy to that.
Does the slot need to be horizontal or vertical? I know haynes isnt faultless you see and that it could be wrong and now im confused at which it should be. lol

It wont matter. However, fit it how the haynes book describes, then, to everything else I described
Brill, Thanks Sprocket. Will have a go tonight!!
