The firing order should be 1-3-4-2

Hi Glenn, the firing order does not really help in your case, as it is an MPi; the plug lead connections to the coil run in the clockwise direction as; 1-2-3-4
Start with lead 1 being the closest to you and lowest connection on the coil and work round. (Coil connection 3, is closest to to spark plug 3.
(Cylinder 1 is the very right hand side of the engine as you look at it, please see photos of my MPi for reference !)
When swapping plug leads for a new set, it is better to change one at once, to avoid any confusion!
I have also bought some clip-on numbers for the ht leads - can just see them in the photo - white plastic bits near the plug end
Let us know how you get on.
HTH
Ryan.

Although saying this, i have just looked in the rover maintainance manual and they show 2 & 4 swapped over to me:
However due to the system using wasted spark, the position of 1 & 3 are interchangeable, as well as 2 & 4 interchangeable !
I would go with rover, start with 1 = lowest and closest to you, and count round anti-clockwise 1-2-3-4

ignore the Rover workshop manual, it is wrong.
The best way to find out which lead goes to which plug, look on the coil pack itself. The numbers relating to where each lead should go, are marked on the triangular lugs around the fixing holes.
