You can probably get away with a red bulb yea. I find though that most red bulbs look pink rather than red.

If you're talking about the red reflector that goes on the bottom of the lens, then I believe it's a legal requirement to have them.

i think he's on about the clear jewel lenses.

should be good to go with a red bulb. they make a completely clear set, which is pretty much just that set without the red insert.

one thing to look at though are the mirror painted bulbs, when they're not lit they are silver, when they are they are normal red/amber/white and they'd look good in those lights.

red led replacement 'bulbs' look best in the jewel lenses. i used the chromed indicator bulbs, and the reverse light bulbs are just standard ones, so the rear light looks like its chromed entirely. had the same problem with the red lenses not staying in place - just use a couple of tiny pieces of double sided tape to hold it in place on the unit while you place the clear lens over it. once the clear lens is screwed down it should hold it all in place. i just didnt fit the red lenses in mine, too much hassle

i managed to fit the red lens easily, just use a brush of superglue on each side of the red lens then hold it in place for around 10 seconds, then put the clear bit over the top. works a charm.
