Hi Guys,

Any opinions on a weather shield??

I was thinking about getting one for my 1993 Rover Mini as someone told me that i would need one if i drive in heavy rain to protect the plugs and dizzy cap.

I have now had my Mini for about a month and have driven him quite a few time in the rain , So far no problems – Was it just luck?

i'd say get one!

They ain't that much money and one day you're bound to get stranded in the rain!

No, good condition plugs leads and well insulated connectors cope fine.

It's like religion, no one can prove a negative so they passionately put their faith in what they've always believed. If it's fine as it is, save your money, and judgment, until something happens to make you think otherwise.

Thought this might prove to be a debate!

Just fitted new plugs & Leads, but I need him reliable so that’s why I’m considering one.

Attack him with the garden hose when the engine's running, see if he complains.

might aswell go for it then, its not going to do any harm in fitting one but could do in not fitting one, for peace of mind and seeing as you need it to be reliable i would just get one

this is purely anecdotal advice....but I've had 3 minis now, none of which have had a weathershield fitted and never had a problem! (well....not that sort of problem anyway!)
I once drove my 1st mini through a flooded road so fast that the bow wave came over my windscreen......stupid I know, but it sure was fun! (and that didn't cause any problems either)

andrew.

mind.....that said, some of the coloured shields, or the one pictured in your post look pretty cool!

Yes you will (lorries on the motorway don't half spray a lot of water!). I use a tescos carrier bag just behind the grill covering the dizzy, i do have a shield but not the fixing brackets.

Or do what we all used to do 20 years ago, 'borrow' one of your mums rubber gloves, cut the tips off the fingers, where your hand goes put over the dizzy, HT leads through each finger. Sorted!

I'd say electronic ignition is a better investment. Spray still gets everywhere in the turbulence you get pushing a Mini grill at 50mph, a shield could turn out to be just as effective at keeping the wet in.
