Check the wireing, earths ect around it as i dont think it was my switch but the associated wiring, i was the same as you it was only 6 months and all looked ok but changed all the connections i had made when fitting the new loom and cleaned the contacts on the plug up and then it all started working properly

Update - today I fixed my stereo by replacing the ignition feed and I also spliced a cigarette lighter socket into it so I can use satnav etc, but I used position 6 on the fusebox (where the wipers attach to) and to do this I cut the connection off the wiper's wire, and put that wire, the stereo live, and the ciggie lighter feed into one clip, crimped it, connected to the fusebox....

Tach and wipers working again.
