Hi folks,

Im currently refurbing my 5x12 supalites and have polished the dish back up and is looking good but I now need to laquer it, ive tried it once and the laquer has run, is it because theres no key to take the laquer?? How can I get the shine of a polished rim and laquer them??

Thanks guys.

Paul.

i wouldn't worry too much to be honest dude, just keep the polished rims clean and waxed and they should stay fine for ages.

very very light dustcoat(s) to start with, build it up very slowly.

Hmmm I was thinking about leaving them nick but I thought that they have gotten this bad with the laquer on so they could go even quicker without any? They get used through the winter, and im thinking the laquer will act as a barrier?

Laquer does not stick to a polished surface.

Even 'self etching' laquer that is made specifically for this purpose does not take well.

Dont bother, just autosol them and wax to keep them protected.

I have just left my polished dish alone, and as Jack_marshall said, i just use autosol on them everytime i wash the mini >_<

I have done a lot of mirror polishing in the past and used a similar product which is no longer available,it adhered to the surface not too bad however it dulled the finish a lot.Similar to the dulling effect of the lacquer you would find on the original diamond cut finish on your superlights.I only used it as the guy i polished the wheels for was insistent they should be lacquered.

These are the wheels that were done but cant seem to find any after pics but the finish was nowhere near as good afterwards.

For a proper mirror polished finish, autosol is miles to harsh and will dull and leave scratches after just one application. You should use something like Belglom alu for normal use and for slightly heavier tarnishing use meguires metal polysh. They should be washed as regularly as possible and waxed with a good protector such as rimwax or similar after each wash.

Most are done with a clear powder coat type lacquer. The polished finish you see on most wheels is diamond cut,it is fairly rough and the coating can stick to it pretty well.
