Does anyone know how to make a system which warns you when you open your door and your lights are left on?

I have a vague idea you could use the switches for the interior light or something

I had to push start her after leaving them on for 2-3 hours :)

Thanks peeps!

There'd be several ways and possibly some already existing you could pinch in the scrappers.

You could connect a buzzer between earth and the sidelights circuit that's switched by a relay operated by a permanent live that earths via the door switch.

I've seen some simple pic boards available that might even be used to make a musical alarm.

Just connect a buzzer between the side light power suply to the lamps and connect the other side to the door switch. When you open your door, the switch will make to earth and sound the buzzer.

There's a bit of an issue with the circuit reversing and earthing the feed from the interior lights through side lights and the buzzer going off if you use the interior light manual switch. I need to rethink my circuit a bit too.

Adding a second door switch would make things much easier - or a couple of blocking diodes.

I did exactly as Major Burkenshaw suggested - worked fine but you may need to take care on buzzer selection. I used one which cost about 2 quid from Maplins.

fit a diode in line with the door switch and connect a buzzer - only comes on when door is opened with lights on , buzzer connects to light swicth and diode , no need for relay .

ive fitted a buzzer from a pugeot 106 1999ish they have a little relay in the fuse box its white. if you get one of these you can connect the dish lighting feed red and green wire to the live terminal of the relay and the earth you gain from the interior lighting earth purple and white. it will sound if you leave you sidelights on too, if you want one i might be able to get one from my local scrapper but 106's deffinately have them.

hope it helps
