after peering under my mini, i noticed a fair bit of surface rust (no holes thankfully). i am going to be treating as much of the car as i can. my plan is to paint the underside of the car (and subframe) with hammerite underseal with added waxoyl (the stuff in a red and black tin). then for all the nooks and hidyholes, i have bought some general waxoyl for a compressed air shultz gun. i am planning to coat the suspension and wheel arches with this

does this sound ok? oh and what preperation is needed before waxoyling/undersealing? i know i need to wash the parts i am going to paint, but should i use an anti rust primer first or just underseal/waxoyl?

the underseal isnt too messy of a job but the waxoil can be terrible so just make sure you wear some old clothes..
clean where ever it is your underseal/waxoiling using a wire brush first and make sure muck etc is removed then give it a good scrubbing, let it dry completely before you go any further (you dont want to trap water) if there is a bit of rust treat it with something like kurust or the like..
if you have chipped some of the paint it would be a good idea to prime and paint before you apply waxoil/underseal..
from there on its straight forward and messy :)
make sure when spraying the waxoil in the arches not to get any on the outer bodys paintwork...

id let the waxoil/underseal dry for a day or so, so it helps when done on a nice sunny day...

thanks for the reply. i was tempted to was and scrub the underside then maybe apply some hammerite straight to rust paint on it first, then apply the underseal. hopefully that should kill the rust before the underseal is painted on top.

have you used the kurust before?
