1978 austin mini 998cc

Would some one correct me if im wrong but im trying to get down to the bottom of why my mini lags power

1. on idle it struggles to keep going now i believe its sucking in air ? if put my foot on the peddle it pretty much dies and takes ages to pic up on the revs ... another reason why i believe it to be an air leak

2. Lastly if you do give it a little bit of gas it does idle fine but you can hear a faint dropping of revs from the exhuast

Things i have done so far are ive cleaned all earths as it did have a starting problem ..... starts up really easy now and i believe theres plenty of fuel getting to the engine so no fuel starvation even checked on with colour tune spot on !

which brings me to the whole air leak problem ?

Or am i missing something else ?

Taa

Have you looked for an airleak? If not then this is probably where to start.

I have had a look around couldnt see anything also replaced the manifold gasket as that was bodged up with fire gum and fluff from a preivious owner ;D

I think il look at the carb next as i havent had a proper look at that ..... Whats that spray you can use to see where an air leak is ?

Just trying to see if anyone has any ideas

Cheers

I use a switch cleaning solvent, but only because I have it handy.
