does anyone know wether a 52mm throttle body off another rover i.e MGTF ZR ZS etc will fit my mini mpi. Ive seen a few advertised and they look exactly the same.
There is also a mini for sale on ebay with one of these throttle body's but i was wondering about modifications??

Cheers guys & gals!

i was looking at these as well, they seem a lot cheaper than the 52mm ones from minisport etc. theres a couple of mg's in the breakers, one has a 56mm (or a 58mm its hard to measure) which mounts in the same way. might go and get it to see if it does work...

its not the opening that you measure, its the butterfly inside. The throttle is bigger, not the top opening.
I was wondering if the fixings and plug etc is the same?

it was the butterfly i was measuring. the whole unit is physically bigger though so it doesnt look like its a straight swap.
the fixings on the 52mm one look the same, 4 torx bolts. didnt get a chance to check the plug though

as long as the base plate where it bolts down is the same id guess it would fit. Everything looks the same, but unsure about the plug!

you could always swap over the throttle position sensor. i would have thought it would be the same, rover tend to use much the same items across a wide range of cars, hence why im looking into replacing the steering wheel on mine with an MG TF leather and aluminum/silver steering wheel.

ive just converted to an alloy one from a platic one, it was not a strait swap and required modifiing using parts from the old plastic one, welding cutting ect, saying that it wasnt that hard but you definately dont want to make a mistake. you will find that the throttle postion sensor gets in the way of either the manifold at the bottom or the aitfilter at the top because the other one is mounted on at an 45 degree angle and the zr/ rover ones are mounted on 90 degrees, and the ratio of the arm that opens it is completely different, and thus need changing to the old one. the one that i got said dellorto on it, it was 48mm from a zr the 52mm ones will be the same i think.

you can buy strait swap ones from burlen fuel systems (su) for a hundred quid or so.

i can post pics of it on my car if you want il run you through what needs to be done, the tps is the same connection and resistance by the way, the mini one seems to have a return spring however.

thanks for the info bigmotherwhale. I think its probably easier to just buy a SU one then! For the extra money you save so much more time.

cheers, but i need the plastic one on my mini to drive it and i aint got a metal one either! Id have to go and look for one in a scrappy or ebay, so after all the time messing about i might aswell pay the £130 for a burlen one.
Thanks anyway.

fair play, the 52mm ones go for around 100 quid on ebay anyway, i just thought you might want a cheap 48mm one, my one was prone to sticking! not good at all.
the feel of the throttle i have to say is improved with the metal one, it feels different somehow i cant put my finger on it really, it should be the same performance. tho the metal ones have a maginaly thinner butterfly which i cant imagine doing much at all.

i have done this mod on mine. fitted 52mm throttle body. and k and n induction. id say its worthwhile, but takes time and a little head scratching to modify the delorto mg one. it does make a difference to how the car performs despite what other people might say.

the main issure with using the other throttle body is how the linkage is attatched. the mini one is bolted on, the mg one is pressed into the throttle spindle

have ported and polished a spare mpi head, added double valve springs, skimmed to run at aprox 10.65:1 cr. also have some 1.5 roller rockers, and ported a spare inlet manifold (matched to head), as well as having a lcb exhaust system with decat and small bore rc40. will be adding this lot pretty soon, should get it dont en a day or so, as long the sensors dont start playing up, am hoping for around 70bhp at the flywheel.

thats exactly what im runnning, i welded the mini cable linkage to the dellorto spindle, im planning on vizzarding the spindle, after i get the rest of my car finished. nice work lol, got my car through its mot yeasterday, phew! took a while tho i have that annoying high lambda problem that seems recuring in mpi's ive got a feeling its to do with the fuel pressure regulator. tho having no holes in my exhaust would help
