Heylo! :teehee:

I have a slight problem ... :teehee:

I'm on the office (Home) computer as it's the only one that's connected to a printer. However, it's recently started displaying images in a REALLY poor quality. It seems to be only images that are on the internet, though.

I did think it was just Photobucket up until this afternoon, as Flickr and facebook images all seem to be OK.

However, I've just clicked onto MY website and they're showing up as really bad quality, too. Those images are hosted on the same server that they have always been and there have been no changes to that OR my website.

My laptop seems to display images absolutely fine, though. And that's on the same internet connection.

I've tried looking through the Mozilla Firefox options, but have found nothing about reducing image resolution to improve loading time and I've found nothing on the 'Control Panel' of the computer itself that hints towards why the computer would start doing this!

If anyone's got any ideas, could you help me out? :proud:

Thank you! ;)

If all images are fine when viewed with your laptop but not with your PC, on the same connection, it is less likely that it is your ISP. Does it occur when you use IE too? If not then at least it can be narrowed down to Firefox. What ISP do you use, out of interest? It is a problem often caused by ISPs compressing the data stream so things load quicker but are lower quality.

Just checked with IE and the images are shown the same. Very compressed & bad quality :proud:

I am with 'Avanti Communications', with satelite broadband. We have to be with them, because I live in the middle of nowhere and it's the only way of getting internet! :teehee:

It sounds very likely that is the problem then - most satellite and 'mobile' internet providers compress in some way. As far as I know holding shift+r can download the full quality image, or do a force reload of the page using ctrl+F5. It may well be worth getting in touch with your ISP and seeing if they compress images.

It depends on how they are doing it - they may only compress certain image filetypes, images over a certain size, with a certain colour depth or all sorts really. Is there a pattern as to what images are poor quality?

Erm... I think it's mostly JPGs, really. The images aren't always huge, either. My avatar is really bad quality on this computer, too - And that's hosted by TMF and is actually tiny! (IIRC, I sized it before even uploading it, so it's not compression through resizing on the board)

Check your Graphics drivers as one of them could have been deleted from you system32 folder if its been incorrectly shutdown or anything like that.

Find out what your graphics card is, if you dont have one then it will most probably be Intel onboard graphics and renew your drivers.
