What cam and what dizzy are you using?
If the compression ratio is over 11:1 don't go over about 5 deg BTDC until you get it set properly.

Do you mean the cam timing or ingintion timing ??
Ah, I had assumed he meant ignition timing.
A Kent cam is quoted as timed at 106 deg ATDC. A BMC/BL/Rover cam is quoted at 110 deg ATDC.
On performance engines I normally time 2 deg advanced from this to allow for the high initial chain stretch which happens during the first 2000 miles after which the stretch happens much more slowly.

You really must get the FULL spec of your engine including the dyno report that I would assume Mini sport would have, as this will give you your initial settings
right i have a
1330 stage 3
1275 a+ eng +3.44 gbox verto bendix gold
276 x-dirlld billet upgrade kent cam
dizzy electronic a+ yellow vac.
verto clutch
4 core rad
11 fan blade
su hif44 carb 100 thou needle
duplex timeing gear
engine power - 67.3 kw din70020 at 125km/h - 6972 rpm
wheel power - 54.9 kw
drag power - 11.6 kw
engine torque - 114.7 nm
max speed - 136.0 km/h
air pressure - 998 mbar
air temp - 17.5 oC
Odometer - 92 bhp
i think this is all i have so any help in the set up or thorghts on up grades would be good. thinking of 1:5:1 roller tiped rockers for the 20% more valve opening.
thanks

So, without that you need to set it for initial start-up as if it was a new engine.
Personally, I would begin with a static timing of 6 degrees BTDC. It will definately start at that without any problem and without the risk of 'pinking' so long as you use Shell top-grade petrol.
Once it is running, you can take it to a rolling road for final setting-up, bearing in mind your wish to use higher-lift rockers.
If you don't know how to set the 6 degrees, come back on here, but I'm sure you already know how to do that.

This should have been one of your important nymbers from the dyno run

Without these figures its a guess, you should have had a timing plot for your engine, this enables you to get your dizzy advance curve fine tuned to cope with the engines ignition requirements.
This is like buying a car and being told that you can only fill up with petrol from us ( us being the company that did the power run)....... effectively anytime you wish to check your ignition youhave to take your car to a rolling road !
Since its been tested on a rolling road have you or anyone else changed anything, or any settings ??
How long ago was it done ?
You may be able to take a reading from your car to get a close figure..... but this is not ideal
